When people think of facelift surgery, they tend to remember the windblown look from the 1980s. Facelift surgery has evolved significantly since then. In addition to the full facelift, which can have a dramatic effect on a person’s appearance, there are new, less invasive types of facelift surgery that require only small incisions in inconspicuous places. Learn more about the different types of facelift surgery and what to expect from the procedure.

Types of Facelift Surgery

One of the newest methods available for restoring a more youthful appearance is the mini facelift. Mini facelift requires only small incisions in a specific area of the face. The surgeons goal is to tighten muscles and lift sagging skin. In some cases mini facelift surgery can be performed endoscopically with little trauma to the skin.

Lower facelift surgery is what most people consider the traditional facelift. Lower facelift surgery targets the cheeks, chin, and jowels. Incisions are made behind the ears or near the hairline.

Deep plane facelift is the most invasive type of facelift. This is also known as a full facelift. The procedure requires multiple incisions several layers deep; this allows the surgeon to tighten facial muscles.

What to Expect From Facelift Surgery

One of the most important parts of the plastic surgery process is the initial surgical consultation. This is the time to ask questions and find out everything there is to know about the procedure. At this time, your surgeon will also provide you with pre and post-op instructions. Do not take these instructions lightly! If you fail to follow your surgeon’s instructions you will only delay your recovery.

During facelift surgery you will be unconscious. You will wake up feeling groggy and somewhat sore. Your face will be bandaged so it may be difficult to see. Recovery can last anywhere from one to three weeks.

For facelift surgery in Ontario, consult an Ontario or Ottowa plastic surgery center.
