You have vision problems. You found a solution years ago by means of corrective eye glasses or prescription contact lenses. You may enjoy eye glasses and contact lenses. In fact, glasses may fit your personality and you may find them quite stylish. But then again, there is another way to overcome you vision problems, and that method is through laser eye surgery.

Also known as refractive surgery and laser vision correction in Long Island, laser eye surgery refers to a host of treatment options that can treat the most common sorts of refractive errors: myopia (nearsightedness, or the ability to see nearby objects sharply but not objects further away), hyperopia (the ability to see faraway objects sharply but not objects nearby), and astigmatism (the inability to sharply focus on a fixed point). The most common laser vision correction surgery options in Long Island are LASIK, PRK, and LASEK.

So why should you consider undergoing laser eye surgery rather than sticking with prescription glasses and prescription contact lenses? Well, for one, there is convenience. Not having to wear eye glasses means that you can play sports or engage in vigorous activity without worrying about your glasses falling off or having to purchase special glasses. For contact lens wearers, you won’t have to worry about losing a contact or having to wash and replace contacts.

There may even be a cost savings to undergoing refractive surgery. While laser eye surgery is an investment, it may pay off in the long run. For one, you will no longer need to replace eye glass lenses or glasses frames every few years, which can save you quite a bit over time. The same goes for getting replacement contact lenses and buying cleaning solution.

And though rare, it is possible to achieve better than 20/20 vision with laser eye surgery on occasion. Generally vision is improved to the 20/40 with laser vision correction, but there is the chance that your vision will be greatly enhanced thanks to the skill of the surgeon and the overall health of your eyes.

Be sure to discuss your treatment options with a LASIK doctor and an ophthalmologist to find out what is best to meet your own needs.
