A Basic Understanding of Breast Lift Surgery
If you are self-conscious about your sagging or droopy breasts, a breast lift cosmetic surgery (mastopexy) may be a solution for you. Breasts sag for various reasons, including massive weight loss, gravity, breast-feeding and/or pregnancy. A breast lift cosmetic surgery procedure can raise and firm your sagging breasts and reverse the sagging process you are experiencing.
How a Breast Lift Works
A breast lift plastic surgery reverses the sagging of breasts by firming and raising them. It is a procedure that can be performed with or without breast implants / breast augmentation. A breast lift can be performed in a hospital, under general anesthesia (you are unconscious), or under local anesthesia (you are conscious). A breast lift cosmetic surgery will take approximately two to four hours to accomplish, and typically requires movement of your areola and nipple to a higher location on your breast. The underlying breast tissue is then tightened to compensate and reduce the sagging breast skin. The number and length of incisions that a particular breast lift will take is determined by the degree of lift required.
What You Can Expect After a Breast Lift Cosmetic Surgery
Since skin is removed and tissue is replaced during a breast lift surgical procedure, you will experience some bruising, soreness, and swelling after the surgery. There may be some pain, however, it probably won’t be sever and can be easily relieved with a prescription from your cosmetic surgeon. Typically, your stitches will be removed one week after surgery and you will be ready to return to work. Within one month of your breast lift surgery, you’ll be ready to resume your normal activities and go on with your life.
Complications after a breast lift cosmetic surgery are minimal and are similar to those that can be experienced after any surgery, including reactions to anesthesia or infection, both of which are easily attended to. Excessive bleeding can happen and you may have some permanent scarring. However, every precaution is taken by plastic surgeons to avoid these situations.
